Julie Castonguay, originally from the city of Québec, holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Laval University. In 2002, after twelve years as a Professioanl Forester, Julie began her formal studies in photography at NSCAD University in Halifax, NS. She graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Photography has been Castonguay's pursuit since the mid-1980’s when she started printing B & W photography. Today, as a digital image-making artist, she is primarily interested in the relationships between nature and humans.

Castonguay’s first solo photography exhibits were held in 2005 in Nelson, BC and Halifax, NS. In this same year, Castonguay was awarded a special mention in the Banff Mountain Photography Competition. In 2006, Castonguay was selected to be part of the Touchstone Art Gallery's inaugural exhibition.

Castonguay resides in Nelson, where she balances her forestry career and her photography, continually exploring and integrating her connection to nature.
